My Goals
My Story
I was born in Brazil and since I was a child I had a fascination about pregnancy and babies. Brazil ranks the highest rate of c-sections in the world - 56% public sector and 84% private sector - and even higher statistics of obstetric violence experienced by several generations of women, including in my own family.
This being part of my culture and possibly my fate as a Brazilian woman, I knew I wanted to contribute to change this sad reality and break the cycle of violence in childbirth.
I became a Doula in 2013 and shortly after started my Midwifery studies. Witnessing and supporting women empowering themselves while they welcome a brand new baby earth side is one of the most amazing accomplishments of my life.
My recent and most important achievement? Becoming a mother of 3 daughters that are my entire world. All of them born through empowering and transformative home births.
After my own home birth experiences I felt the urge to advance my career in midwifery. I wanted to have the honor to serve families while respectfully welcoming their babies through a model of care that only midwives can offer.
Low-risk pregnancy and birth are physiological, normal yet transcendent events in the life of the expectant woman and her family. Even though pregnancy, birth and the transition to life outside of the womb can be unpredictable it should be a safe, unique and an empowering event no matter the twists and turns that journey may take.
Mothers must be the protagonist in the decision making process during the childbearing year. Babies deserve a safe, respectful and gentle start. While birthing families can be deeply involved in such important moment in everyone's life.
I have a goal of providing evidence based, respectful and individualized care to low-risk individuals by supporting the Midwives Model of Care. The Midwives Model of Care is based on the fact that pregnancy and birth are normal life processes, which includes:

-
Monitoring the physical, psychological, and social well-being of the mother throughout the childbearing cycle
-
Providing the mother with individualized education, counseling, and prenatal care, continuous hands-on assistance during labor and delivery, and postpartum support
-
Minimizing technological interventions
-
Identifying and referring women who require obstetrical attention

The application of this woman-centered model of care has been proven to reduce the incidence of birth injury, trauma, and cesarean section

Clients have the option of choosing to give birth in the comfort of their own home or receive prenatal and postpartum care with a midwife, but give birth in the hospital with a physician.
I also really love serving Portuguese and Spanish speaking birthing families.
My Inspiration
The two women in this picture are my biggest inspiration to pursue home births myself and to become a midwife.
Sister Maria Isabel, the nurse midwife that was present at my birth, unfortunately a hospital birth full of intervention and obstetrical violence.
The nurse midwife that used her own house as an 'underground refuge' birth center to birthing families that want to escape obstetrical violence and interventions in a typical Brazilian hospital.
My mother, that refused to submit to hospital obstetrical violence when then pregnant with my sister. Despite all social and family pressure she decided to pursue a home birth at midwife's house here in this picture moments after my sister's birth.
Sister Maria Isabel caught many babies in our community, in particular our church community on the east-side of Sao Paulo - Brazil. I've met so many people that were received earth side by her hands. I have no idea how she was but everyone would talk about her with a different tenderness and a smile on their faces.
I remember being a little girl and thinking, how cool is that? Just helping everyone being born! In one occasion I asked my mother to take me to meet Sister Maria Isabel so she could tell me all about my birth and how to be a midwife but she had already passed away in the early 90's. How I wish she was still here with us...so much to ask and learn.

Before becoming a Midwife
I always wanted to be a midwife! I tried to enroll into Midwifery school in Brazil in 2004, but also met the love of my life that same year. We got engaged in 2006, moved to Las Vegas in 2007 as an AuPair specialized in newborns and multiples and got married in 2009.
Even though I pushed my midwifery dreams aside for a moment I've pursued my other dream to set a strong marriage foundation, spending the rest of my life with my partner and soulmate while building a family together through lots of adventures. We've been married for over 15 years now - and counting!
After my first job caring for preemie newborn twin boys I had the honor of serving many families and their newborn babies in Las Vegas as a Newborn Care Specialist/Nanny from 2007 to 2016.
When I'm not doing 'birthy' work I absolutely love spend time with my own family and my extended Brazilian church family, travel, play piano, try new foods and cuisines, cook, watch a good movie/documentary, learn new skills.
